That’s just not true. I’m a full stack developer, and I like web apps because they’re easier to maintain for cross-platform use, and they should work just fine on Linux phones when I get around to switching.
I don’t know how they’d increase their ability to get more user data, a web app would have less access to phone-specific data that a native app.
Every justification made for webapps are transparent lies to get access to more user data.
