She was pushed into a position due to being in the ERG. She is trying to represent the far right of the Tory party, Which she upset with the EU retention bill changes. I don’t think anyone wants her to run if Sunak falls, but she will be in the mix. She has provoked criticism for her campaigning to push herself forward as a potential leader while Sunak is still incumbent.

I personally do not think the Tories would be so stupid as to use her as a next leader. Most likely will be a wake up call to remove the extremist element from the party after the next election. That would be the most sensible option, but you can never say never with the Tories in their current state. She is a bigger disaster waiting to happen than Truss threw up. A power crazy individual with no conscience.

Ahh I see, thanks for the clarification. I didn’t know Sunak was doing badly enough to remotely warrant a challenge, however subtle, to his leadership. I assume then that the next election won’t be pretty for them

Pretty much every political commentator at this point is confident that they’re going to be wiped out and lose worse than they ever have in history. So yeah, not pretty.

That said it’s their own fault, Sunak was supposed to bring things around, but he’s basically done nothing and just sat there being useless while the right wing nationalist element of his own party essentially destroy their election chances. It’s bizarre watching them go at it, it’s like they were sent from the future with a mission to ensure the conservative party is never politically electable ever again.

Sunak is pretty much inactive. He is playing the quiet game to try and deflect a lot of the damage done by Johnson and Truss. He isn’t really getting any grief atm. He took flak from some worried Mps over the latest bi-elections and how much they lost ground. But tbf to Sunak, any Tory MP who thought they were going to do anything but that was kidding themself. Sunak will be around until the next election, mainly because they have no credible alternative. Sunak best option is to go to the polls in Autumn, but he is showing no signs of doing that. The money is on an election next Spring or Autumn. Spring is a bad time, what with coming out of NHS crisis that are inevitable over the winter period. Inflation will still be around and not many are getting pay rises to match it. The only positive on the horizon would be if Russia collapsed economically and had to pull out of Ukraine. Russia is burning its wealth fund in large amounts, but I still think they will be floating as ok till mid next year.

Damned autocorrect! I think you meant ‘by-election’. Can’t see the tories supporting bi-elections 😉

:) A grammar policeman with style.

It wasn’t autocorrected. I just not very bright at checking how I type. I won’t correct it, as it can now be someone’s smile for the day.

Wouldn’t they go with Kemi Badenoch or Penny Mordaunt if they want a right whinger of the party to lead?

Braverman comes across as a pasty these days.
