        Lol they’re both real words, so not sure why the clarification needs to be made. After googling, seems like intention to permanently stay in the “new” country is the difference. Don’t really see how that distinction matters for this conversation though…

      It’s the same thing, just depends on which side you’re looking at it from.

      If you’re in America it’s expat, if you’re a native in the country the expat is in then they’re an immigrant.
