There are basically no rats in Alberta, Canada, because the province has been very fastidious about eliminating the few that get in.
That’s with major land mass on all sides.
New Zealand is an island and while it’s a pretty damn big island that’s already a huge step ahead of most places in the world.
When I moved to AB from ON I thought the idea that you could have a province with no rats just seemed ridiculous.
But there aren’t any rats here. Field mice sure, but no rats.
More power to the Kiwis to remove an invasive species.
Now if only rats didn’t make such wonderful pets. Adorable friendly dudes those fancy rats are. (￣ヘ￣)
