I literally just today broke my Pixel’s screen in the process of replacing a spicy pillow.
Thankfully the eu will mandate common sense starting in next year’s devices… So replaceable batteries are back!
I’m tired of everyone copying apple. The ecosystem should be diverse with competition not captured and exploitative.
Non-replaceable batteries, and Bluetooth only earbuds - are examples of customer capture. Their net negatives for the customers, huge positives for the supplier. One through forced obsolescence, and the other through increased recurring consumable earbuds sales.
In a healthy capitalistic market, a competitor should come along and provide consumer friendly options and get market share…

Thats not correct. The law only applies from 2027, and there are exceptions for smartphones and tablets.
Basically it doesn’t need to be user replaceable if the battery is rated for at least 83% capacity after 500 charging cycles and at least 80% capacity after 1000 charging cycles.
Hello there.
Sent from my Fairphone 5
Sadly, Fairphone won’t directly sell devices in the US. There’s a reseller that preloads with /e/OS iirc, but not sure how much I trust them.
Also, no GrapheneOS :(
Yeah Battery capacity getting low is one of the main reasons why most people replace their phones
Once you are able to just switch to a fresh battery again and clean up some of the apps running on your phone it’s as good as new in most cases and people wouldn’t buy new phones as often.
Can’t have people not buying new things regularly…
