A teacher was busted for allegedly sexually abusing her 13-year-old student, reportedly having sex with him at least 12 times, sending him money via CashApp and having a pregnancy scare.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Laredo Morning Times in Texas, Adriana Mariel Rullan, 27, had “sexual intercourse/sexual contact” with the student a dozen times, including at a middle school in the United Independent School District.

It’s due to libel laws. Publications don’t want to get sued for alleging something before conviction. They’d be out of business if they called it rape.
It’s easy enough to call it “alleged rape”, like they do for alleged male rapists.
I get we never want to make light of those who have been victims of rape but I do understand not wanting to touch it. It has an extreme pubic connotation and all it takes is one mistake “alleged” or not and the accused has a case for damages to reputation
I’m not saying it’s how it should be but until our laws change it’s the only option
That doesn’t work when the word doesn’t mean from a female to a male unfortunately though.
That is simply not true. Anyone of any gender can rape anyone else of any gender.
Depending on the location it changes.
Because when boys are raped apparently it’s less severe. It’s disgusting.
I definitely would’ve slept with her when I was 13 if she gave me the chance…which is exactly why it is and should be illegal. 13 year old kids aren’t developed enough to recognize a lot of bad ideas. A 27 year old teacher should be.
Exactly! It doesn’t matter if a child “enjoys” the sexual contact, because that can be weaponized and their future can be stolen. It’s unfortunately normalized for children in certain social spaces (especially celebrities) to date far upwards; we need better common knowledge about the danger of age gaps and the cycle of abuse it perpetuates.
Let’s be real though, would you really have made a different choice 5 years later?
No but the difference is I would have made the choice at 18. At 13 you don’t have that choice. Ur still a minor. She made it for you.
So she raped him 12 times, and we’re not using the word “rape?”
Some places have really specific definitions for rape, ie “forcibly inserting your penis…”. So what women do to men can never be called rape even though it “is”. Using the term for cases where it doesn’t specifically apply would be libel and you can/would be sued.
Sec. 22.011. SEXUAL ASSAULT. (a) A person commits an offense if:
(1) the person intentionally or knowingly:
(A) causes the penetration of the anus or sexual organ of another person by any means, without that person’s consent;
(B) causes the penetration of the mouth of another person by the sexual organ of the actor, without that person’s consent; or
© causes the sexual organ of another person, without that person’s consent, to contact or penetrate the mouth, anus, or sexual organ of another person, including the actor; or

while “rape” isn’t defined, it is often used to describe sexual assault.
using “rape” in this context would be perfectly reasonable, and i think whoever wrote the article should have done so.
I don’t think they can call it rape until after she’s been convicted of rape, unless they want to open themselves up to a lawsuit. Not sure if they could have said, “Allegedly raped,” or not, but I wouldn’t fault the writer or even the publisher for having to phrase it this way. I think their choice of headline was more likely motivated by legal pressures than any sort of bias against rape victims, male or female.

I’m perpetuating a stereotype by providing information that should be common knowledge…? What…?
The hell kind of shit is this lmfao? Places have different rules, do you seriously think that just because your place does something everything has to be the same or they are wrong…? What’s a shit way of thinking.

Is a government petition to change the definition enough proof? I don’t know why you couldn’t just google this simple fact yourself
He was later found with self-inflicted injuries, taken to a hospital and then admitted to a mental health facility…
I hope she rots in prison for the rest of her life.
Meh, I hope her cell mates are not fond of child rapists
These things are not mutually exclusive.
Fair
Rape. It’s rape. Call it rape. Guys can be raped. That’s what happened.

as this comment said we all probably would have loved to be in that situation but lack the maturity to foresee the consequences
What a fucking disaster. She was delegated with one thing - to look after and educate kids. And she not only failed that, she failed our general standards of not touching kids, not fucking them. Why it’s too hard for her to understand? What in this system failed to make her think it’s ok?
