I’ve got to be honest, I feel like Lemmy is pretty terrible at memes. I wonder if it’s a generational thing. Is it mostly Zoomer memes? All I know is that they are different and often lack a punchline. I’m including comics in this, because apparently comics and memes are interchangeable these days.
I don’t think it’s a zoomer thing, it’s basically the evolution of shitposts. It’s low effort (or trying to appear that way) and trying to communicate something (often a vague feeling or a joke, and the joke is often playing off another meme)
There’s no reward for getting people to read your posts here, no algorithm to game. It’s more like memes for the sake of communication than entertainment, it’s more of a small community thing than anything else… It’s been around since image sharing became a thing
There’s more mainstream memes on here too, but they’re basically different genres of meme
Well, there’s old stuff in the antiquememes community, perhaps you may like those more?
