I’m bummed to hear that anyone was actually affected by those people. Shitty people who say shitty things have shitty opinions, ignore them. I’m not saying it’s “just that simple”, but don’t make decisions based on them.
That isn’t to say the film is above criticism. Most films get something wrong, some get more wrong than others, but you have to have a real argument.
Captain Marvel was a solid film. The Marvels, without spoiling anything, wasn’t as good. I’m still looking forward to a third film.
Movie got a lot of unwarranted hate, it was fine. It wasn’t FANTASTIC or anything, but it was fine.
Everything that stars a woman gets unwarranted hate. I heard the Fanboys going nuts and calling Echo “woke”. I watched it all and I can’t think of a single woke thing in it, aside from the main character being a native woman, which I guess is what’s driving them crazy
My only real beef with Echo was I JUST watched What If Season 2 that had it’s own magical natives and I was like “Again? Didn’t we just do this?”
It straddled that line between fine and good. IMO
My only beef was I’ve seen physics done better in video games. Some of it was laughably bad. :(
Something in particular you can point out? I feel a bunch of physics gripes are hand-waved away 'cause superheoes
Captain Marvel vs. the Space Ships here:

There were others. Once clips become more widely available you’ll see what I mean.
I’m gonna be honest. I don’t see anything particularly bad, let alone laughably bad. It just looks like normal CGI space ship battles.
It’s when she stops the ship dead in mid air and flings it away. Physics does not work like that. /Morbo :)
How does the physics supposed to work In that scene? A flying super human with super human strength stopping a smallish ship mid air and flinging it?
Pacing was my biggest issue. Either make the film longer to give scene/characters time to breathe or cut even more subplots from the movie.
I do agree it was ultimately fine, but there was a better movie in there.
I thought it was delightful. Captain Marvel felt kind of forced in for Endgame, and her stand alone movie was unfortunately a bit forgettable, but I really liked the fleshing out of her character in this movie.
I don’t think Larson is a particularly good actor, certainly not good enough to carry a lead role, but even she suffered from some bizarre editing and writing choices in this one. The entire movie felt like a series of vaguely connected individual scenes. I mean, I get it, it’s a superhero movie, no ones expecting Oscar worthy stuff but it’s not a great look when the end credit scenes are more interesting than the actual movie.
She has an Oscar for Best Actress in a lead role.
I don’t think that carries the weight you think it does.

For me “Short Term 12” is her best movie.
Can she play anything other than heavy sarcasm response character?

I saw this movie on opening weekend. It’s certainly not a “bad” movie. I don’t regret watching it, but I kinda regret spending money on it.
The movie felt like Batman 1966, but with Marvel characters. I was almost expecting to see “BAM!”, “POW!”, and “WHIFF!” show up on screen. The reason I decided to see it in theaters was to form my own opinion, but if I had known it would be so campy, I wouldn’t have been in a great rush to see it. Not that I didn’t enjoy it - in fact, I loved it!
Maybe if it was marketed as “A Disney+ Original Movie”, people wouldn’t be so harsh on it.
Anyway, “The Marvels” isn’t that good of a superhero movie, but I think people are being too harsh on it. It’s not the worst of the worst, it’s just campy and mediocre.
I don’t understand all the “it’s a bad movie” hate at all (apart deom the obvious haters)… i thought it was fun and certainly better than some of the movies that came before.
I went to the cinema this evening to see it since I missed the original release. And it was very entertaining, I laughed quite a lot. Good jokes, good action, great team!
I don’t get the hate at all… I’m glad I got to see it on the big screen!
