tl;dr from the article:

  • The Nothing Phone 1 is now getting the stable Android 14 update with Nothing OS 2.5.
  • The software will roll out in stages and come to open beta testers before stable Android 13 users.

That’s late for a company that only has two phones, but I guess it’s a small company.

Maybe I’m just a sucker for implementing security fixes quickly but the more time you have between upstream and downstream, the more time the attacker can attack.

Timely security updates and late major Android version upgrades aren’t exclusive. I don’t know whether Nothing phones receive monthly security updates, but many other big manufacturers don’t either.

Full Android releases are not related to security fixes. They’re for functionality. Android 13 will still receive security fixes for years to come. Android 11 is still getting them.

          Insecure in what way?

In the fact it doesn’t have a major Android upgrade and probably not routine security which includes numerous security and CVE fixes. A quick search says (unofficially) NothingOS promised updates once every two months but aren’t even honoring that.

Or are you implying that Android 13 is at least as secure as Android 14 or that a two month old OS (which includes all those CVEs) is secure?

I only vaguely remember hearing about these phones, what is so special about them again?
