Joe Rogan is the reason I cancelled Spotify.
Imagine being laid off from Spotify three weeks before the holidays and then seeing how much they’ve agreed to renew overpaying Joe Rogan so he’ll continue to do… THAT.
Reminder that if you are paying for spotify premium, you’re paying for this.
I use xmanager to not pay for Spotify premium. I just don’t listen to ShitRogan
I love Spotify premium, I’m okay with contributing.
Fuck joe Rogan
Capitalism is not sending their best.
The dude is an absolute moron. Anyone with a brain can tell within five minutes he’s very curious and asks good questions but has no ability to rationally digest the answer. He’s like Trump, he believes whatever he feels is true. This is what cults do.

Who still listen to this? He’s so boring. Sure if you listen to a couple it seems interesting, but after a few it just starts to repeat like a broken record no matter what the guest. Yawn.
Went to a dad’s weekend at a lake house and a friend of a friend kept bringing up JR bullshit talking points trying to make things political when we just wanted to drink at stare at water. Dude put on JR one loop to go to sleep saying he just needed it as calm background noise. Fucking idiots are who listen to JR.
Joe Rogan is still trying to get people to eat horse testicles.
I’ve eaten fried, sliced billy goat nuts.
Pretty tasty.
Organ meat is your friend.
I prefer eating pussy but I’ve never had the chance.
So… you ever tried DMT?
I dislike the guy strongly but this is a tired reference.
I do find it interesting how various people react to DMT and other powerful hallucinogens. Everything from Leary and McKenna and RAW on up to the likes of Lil’ Alex screaming about machine elves and “the elites”.
Imagine giving this company $120 per year to rent music
I do it because it is convenient and easy and my.whooe family benefits. Don’t trivialize things, especially if it’s something you’re rallying against. Recognise it’s strengths and attack the shit parts, like this post or the layoffs, the ads, the social media elements and shorts additions to the app while they rollback features.
You’re making a lot of valid points that have made me more anti-spotify. I will continue to buy my music and self host it.

Convenience is a big undeniable part of our life. Every service you pay for is convenience.
You can’t deny that Spotify is a convenient service.

Yeah, but often the alternative is either trying to hunt down something from piracy sites (often near impossible with certain artists), or buying it. Buying also often doesn’t mean just going in a record shop with many artists (out of print, no printing at all, etc), not to mention often how hard it is to get an optical drive for it (many computer cases lack an option to install them because iT ImPEdes On AiRFloW or LiNUs TolD uS wHAt YeaR iT IS 2001, discrete players are no longer made in the same number and most modern options are often overpriced audiofoolery stuff, etc).
Pretty much everything on spotify is on YouTube, plus all the stuff that isn’t on spotify but was uploaded by one person in 2009, plus all the mixes and non published music (video game, soundtrack stuff)
I probably listen to more on YouTube than I do tidal (my personal rental service of choice) these days
And to be clear, YouTube, not YouTube music
YouTube has the issue of having a video stream in parallel thus more bandwidth, and piss poor bitrate.
The bitrate is the primary issue for me. Sounds like absolute ass on my main system.
YouTube streams adaptive videos, which are not going to load the video-part of the playback unless you actually have the video on.
You can notice this effect most clearly in certain apps that stream adaptive video in that when you turn the screen on and off it takes a small time before the video segment actually loads - those bytes don’t make it to the device unless they are actually necessary for the experience.
No contest on the point about bitrates for the audio stream.
“The alternative is buying it”
😦 Uh… Yeah… Your annual music budget is $120 and you choose not to own any music.
It’s so weird that this kind of thing can be considered worth that much. I tried his podcast long ago, it just wasn’t that interesting to me. There are so many other options out there. He sort of plays this slack-jawed everyman doing the “just asking questions” thing all the time. I guess that comes across as relatable to a lot of people.
As a for instance for what I find more interesting: Sam Harris. I still listen to the free edition; I’ve thought about actually subscribing since I find what he does to be actually useful and interesting. For those that seek safe spaces and so on and want to punish everyone that ever question orthodoxy, they are best off staying away.
In his new deal he’s no longer exclusive to Spotify as well and it will all be posted on YouTube live as well. Something like, I don’t follow this guy to closely but I remember hearing something about.
