“We want to provide Linux support, so we’re exclusive though the marketplace that hates Linux support.”
Coooooool…
You can buy it from their website DRM free, why would you want to buy it from Steam anyway?
Steam: buy, download, and updates for me. Easier and more convenient than even piracy by design.
Website: doesn’t integrate with my package manager, doesn’t offer updates, doesn’t provide me any features.
Also from their own website in a Q&A format:
But I want to play it on my heavy computer that’s strapped to my face and sprays pixels into my eyeballs. Don’t see your favorite platform listed? Don’t worry. Throw your other platforms in the trash, and get it from one of the above!
Steam integrates with your package manager?
No, Steam is a package manager.
If it was on steam then your one purchase would allow you to play it on both windows and Linux.
Why wouldn’t I? The game is going to be DRM free there too, so I can back up my game files in either case.
Feels like a big mistake. Like, buying from a developer’s website always sucks (or at least, the websites I’ve bought from have always been a worse experience) and I’d sooner miss much better games entirely than bother with epic.
