Not only are the larger, heavier trucks causing more damage on the roads; but they’re also a significant reason why the roads cost so much more to build now. New roads are built to account for all that extra weight (or at least, to try to) whereas the old roads didn’t. So to build to a higher standard for these heavy trucks costs us more.
