The legacy of Evangelion is in Studio Khara ran by Hideaki Anno, and the legacy of Gainax has been in Studio Trigger since 2013 when Kill La Kill came out.
I heard that he purchased the Gainax trademark so now he and the original creator (who he is friends with) own FLCL
Studio Trigger has been their spiritual successor for a while now anyway.

The studio has lost their top talent director Anno and Hiroyoki long time ago and hasn’t been making shows recently, so it’s not too surprising
