Ah, tik tok. Making young people think normal human behavior is a new flavor of mental illness since 2016.

? No. I can do what I like, and I do exactly what I want. This might seem like a funny joke, but this is exactly the kind of self-pitying learned helplessness bullshit that I’m against.

I’m happy that we live in a world where therapy and seeking mental help has been mostly de-stigmatized.

That being said there is definitely something horribly toxic about people diagnosing each over social media. “You know that thing that you struggle with? It’s not a personal failing; It’s a disorder with a name, a treatment plan, and a community of weirdos to teach you a bunch of advanced psychology terms to describe your every single thought.”

Painting with a wide brush there. There are legit doctors of various disciplines providing actual real info on the platform. Often people have questions, and often they get the right push to find answers.

But sure, it’s just a misinformation dancing app (it has that, too).

Without it being a one-on-one meeting, this just leads to self diagnosis. Every health issue is either going to be cancer or autism.

Or it helps people go seek diagnosis. Which it does.

Don’t be so dismissive of modern technology.

Yeah, there are bad actors, but people aren’t stupid just because they use a specific app (not to mention, bad actors get called out often). Your moral superiority is showing.

This is getting a lot of pooh-poohing, but I get what they mean. Before I was diagnosed in my late teens I would come home after school, barely functional, and just shut down until bed time because I didn’t know what was happening wasn’t normal or how to deal with it. There is a difference between relaxing and sitting in an overstimulated, exhausted pile, even if they look similar from the outside.

As someone diagnosed with dissociation I completely agree.

People acting like dissociation doesn’t exist like maybe this woman actually does dissociate, you don’t know better than her.

Many people need access to therapy and can’t get it for various (mostly financial) reasons. That’s a problem. Many others obsessively seek out external factors to blame their shitty behavior on. That’s just a self centered dick head being immature.

I would argue that it is relaxing in the traditional sense. You just chill out and don’t worry about anything… It’s weird to see it like demonized in this way like the mere idea of relaxing for just a second shows how mentally unstable you are or something lol

Or indeed like disassociation can’t be healthy or at the very least health-neutral in some contexts lol.

Personally, I find the idea of successfully disassociating very soothing. Like a vacation from my overactive and overly self-critical anxiety brain 😁

How else am I supposed to relax? Just move all my problems to the expensive pool at the beach resort and stress over everything there?

I legit don’t know. Never been relaxed in my life.

I’ve always wonder if I dissociate. Like, I never feel disconnected from myself, but sometimes I just blank out. Not like I’m totally unaware, but I just kind of shut off my perception of most stimuli. Sometimes I also get brief, but super insane clarity of my life and everything going on in it.
