      They do look similar in this photo, but they’re very different things.

      Gegenschein is reflected sunlight backscattered back to our eyes from dust particles close(ish) to Earth.

      The Milky Way is the cross sectional view of our spiral galaxy that rises and sets like other constellations and has viewing seasons- its more visible in the northern hemisphere summer.
