Salt / mineral rich lakes with bio-film?
it is very likely yeah! I can’t remember where exactly I found this, aside from somewhere in Australia, but I did find multiple salt sites that looked very similar.

Sorry, i never noted the coordinates. Its somewhere in Australia and my guess is south west but not generally sure
Are these just algae?
I can’t say for sure, as I didn’t note where I found it (aside from Australia), but my guess is some sort of salt lake / salt extraction facility
