Elon Musk revealed a prototype of the long-awaited robotaxi at a Hollywood film studio - but investors aren’t wowed.
“but investors aren’t wowed.”
It’s almost like there have been accidents with the slightly automated cars that are already on the road and there are no states that allow fully automated driving at their current capabilities.
There are states that are clearly willing to work with companies in a regulated and cautious manner but Tesla spent the last decade blowing smoke up everyone’s ass that FSD gives their car full taxi abilities “within the next year” so others have filled in with the actual tech and regulatory steps necessary
Waymo’s have taken over downtown SF.
To me, logically, a self driving car only has to be better than the average human driver. I acknowledge that emotionally it feels different when there is an accident involving self driving.
I remember when the Cyber Truck was revealed, including the whole window cracking thing there was a dip in Tesla stock, I was on Reddit the next day saying, yeah, it’s ugly as sin, but if I was the investing type, it would be a smart time to invest, because Tesla stock would bounce right back and the fanboys would drool over it.
I was right, but after all that’s happened since then, I wouldn’t be brave enough to try to call whether things will trend back upward this time.

It all hinges on whether they can ultimately deliver on unsupervised FSD in the next couple years. Supervised FSD is a pretty good Level 3 system, but if they can’t progress to a Level 4 system, robotaxi is irrelevant.
Two door taxi? Fucking seriously?
…because the taxis rely on full self-driving, which has been a couple of years away for the entire span of Tesla’s existence.
Capabilities aside, this simply won’t happen without legislative change - Tesla won’t wear the consequences of their cars killing people.
They’re also a dumb design for a taxi
Actually embarrassing to look at.
At least the Cybertruck was going for that dystopia look. This just looks like trash.
Trash that’s a rolling liability case, no emergency controls, seriously?
I don’t even so much mean the look, it’s just impractical for a taxi; it seats two people, with minimal luggage space.
Presumably Musk doesn’t think about things like going to the airport with your spouse and kids because none of his kids want anything to do with him, and going to the bar with friends because that would require friends
Yes he does.
You have to get at least three taxis to go to the airport: one for the parents, one for the kids and one for the luggage. That’s 3-times the sales as a regular taxi.
Check mate!

During the event, it was also mentioned that the existing Model 3 and Model Y vehicles would be used as taxis, which could transport 3 to 7 passengers at a time.
Tbf, cyber truck also looks like trash
It’s peak capitalism - a man of sub-normal intelligence was born into wealth, further expanded that wealth by using it to exploit the work and intelligence of others, until it grew large enough to entirely shield him from the consequences of his actions - all as his ego inflated to such fragility that he had to surround himself with nothing but sycophants and yes-men. When he decided to crack out the crayons and design his own Canyonero to prove his intelligence (and ability to meme with his fellow kids at 50-something years old), there was no one left to tell him no… Until he encountered insurers, the EU, a mild hill, a sprinkling of rain, or anyone looking at it without gushing adoration.
Can’t believe investors weren’t screaming “What is happening right now?!” and “He just did that!”
