Most “ASMR” grosses me out TBH, I don’t like that whisper stuff and I really hate those lip-smacking sounds - to me it’s about as erotic as eating with your mouth open. Shame, since I am actually interested in the general concept.

The best stuff is an old craftsperson calmly explaining and demonstrating their obsolete trade, like that welsh stone carver.

As someone pointed out, it’s not supposed to be erotic. The tingles that it causes isn’t caused by erotic stimuli, it’s a very different kind of tingle. Which doesn’t mean some ASMR can’t be erotic, I’m not saying that. Speaking for myself, the tingles I get are mostly around my face and eyes, if that makes sense. Not my fingertips, though.

It’s kind of sad it ever caught on. The real stuff is fleeting and incredibly pleasant. Bob Ross seems to be the leading cause of it. The intentional stuff is, by definition, terrible.

Try simpler sounds and triggers. Tapping, scratching, brushing; rain, fire, water, whale sounds, keyboard typing, etc.

For me it changed with time, from slow to fast and aggressive, types of triggers, different ASMRtists…
