The South African and Iranian foreign ministers have signed a cooperation deal ahead of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, which Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi will attend.

Iran is looking to join BRICS. “We hope to obtain the opportunity of accelerated membership under strong support we hope to receive from South Africa.” Iran has been accused of supplying Russia with drones for use in Ukraine.
