Summary

Lt. Gen. Christopher Donahue, the last U.S. soldier to leave Afghanistan, has had his promotion to lead U.S. Army operations in Europe blocked by Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin, reportedly at the request of Donald Trump’s transition team.

The block reflects tensions over the chaotic 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal, with Trump allies pushing for investigations into military leadership during the operation.

Some have suggested court-martialing officers involved.

Critics warn such moves undermine military readiness, while Trump and allies label the withdrawal a “humiliating retreat.”

Donahue’s promotion remains in limbo as debates continue.

    Here is the thing:

Trump set the US evacuation in motion. In February 2020, his administration and the Taliban agreed that US forces would leave by 1 May the following year. After losing the 2020 election to Biden, Trump ordered the rapid withdrawal of all troops but was blocked by senior officials. Instead, the US began to swiftly reduce its presence.

Everytime I point this out to a MAGA it starts an instant argument. It’s like tossing gas on a fire.

The whole leave Afghanistan thing was Trumps idea but they all seem to forget that and want to pretend it was solely Biden’s fault for coming up with it. Putting the blame on the soldiers is some top tier shit stupidity as well.
