Jesus fuckin christ.
Five dead, investigation underway.
Investigation could take months, even years.
Heart goes out to those affected. Thanks for sharing this, I’m excited to see this community on Lemmy.
Michael Huwar, president of Peoples Gas, said the company’s checks for gas leaks underground and in the air as well as the consistent pressure verified at regulation stations indicates that “our system was operating as designed.”
would have been a big leak to do that, so you have to believe them
“slow and long process” that would include a lot of forensic testing and could last “months if not years.”
I mean. This line strikes me as a bit odd. It seems like natural gas explosions are common enough to be self-evident, which means it shouldn’t take years to do an investigation. Also, the size of the fireball, that really seems like a natural gas explosion. And if its not a natural gas explosion, what then? For example, this explosion in Pendleton was the result of home made fireworks.
Meth lab? My brother is a firefighter (not in PA) and has encountered a fair few of those throughout the years.
yeah it’s gotta be amateur chemistry of some kind, might as well start with that… a large volume of some kind of flammable gas was being produced in the basement…
This kills the house
I’d expect Panama to look a bit more tropical.
dunno if you’re joking but it’s Pennsylvania lol
Just messing with Statians. PA is Panama’s ISO.
Its nice to see video on lemmy.
There was a house a few doors down from us that had a large residential propane tank explode… that’s not propane.
Expected an explosion, was definitely not left disappointed!
yep, sure was gas alright, see that flameout after the explosion, man oh man, hope it was a quick end

That shouldn’t terrify you, with proper maintenance and half a brain you should be fine.
THIS SHOULD TERRIFY YOU INSTEAD: nitrogen oxides (NOx), including nitrogen oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), and formaldehyde (CH2O or HCHO), and unburned gas containing benzene aren’t anything you want to raise kids around.
