All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.
Something tells me the supreme court is gonna try to twist this part (in bold).
If children of undocumented immigrants aren’t “subject to the jurisdiction thereof”, that means they can commit any crime they can get away with. If they get caught, the government can’t do anything to them except deport them.
Anyone born in the US who has been jailed for a crime, forced to apply for a driver’s license, or forced to pay at least one cent of income tax is “subject to the jurisdiction thereof”.
They would love and I mean LOVE legal precedent saying undocumented immigrants weren’t subject to US jurisdiction. Having them be literal Outlaws that can just be killed on sight because they are not protected by law anymore.
This would be what we who recognize fascism call a ‘get the guns’ moment.
If you noticed, trump and Co have been calling illegal immigrants ‘invading aliens’ to make it seem as if they are an invading force and not qualified for birthright citizenship.
Conservatives have been calling them “invaders” for some time now, primarily to rile up Texans who want to invade Mexico.
The fact that we don’t see Meal Team 6 make excursions across the border tells you that they care more about punishing immigrants than actually invading Mexico.
