Major media outlets are giving wall-to-wall coverage to UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s murder while taking millions in health care industry advertising. They’re silent about the real story: how profit-driven health care kills 68,000 Americans every year.
I dunno… Maybe if 99% of our news outlets weren’t consolidated in the hands of a few billionaires…
If, according to Frank Zappa, … "Politics is the entertainment division of the military industrial complex.” … then corporate media is the “Propaganda division of the military industrial complex”
Frank was right about a lot of things.
Including yellow snow
And, by extension, huskies. I never spot a husky without watching where it goes for at least a second or two.
Because they’re cute rather than because of yellow snow, but still!
Like 91% of the media is owned by like 6 or 7 families. All forms. Of course the press is complicit
Sure, but the real culprits are the politicians who are financially supported by the health insurance industry and keep defending this insane system. Bernie for President.
*nonchalantly jots down the names of Nintendo’s parasitic lawyers to the list.
They’ll probably try to sue the revolution.
The press is complicit in America’s
health caredeath.Insulin manufacturers advertise often, especially in major American newspapers. Most striking to me are the full-page New York Times ads Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk have run over the years. These ads highlight the companies’ respective patient assistance programs, which have been proven unreliable for most, as a solution for those struggling to afford their insulin. The irony is that these ads are placed in a newspaper whose daily print delivery subscription is priced at $1,040 a year, an expense I doubt those who are unable to afford their insulin are able to pay.
Oh, look, another great reason to support adblockers.
You know, I used to be on the “Adblock moderate” track, but I get more vehement by the day, and can’t help but dream about how many global problems a pi-hole in every household would solve.
And rejecting ads is something actually doable by the public.
“The press is complicit in crippling American social problem Y”
Well yeah, no shit. The press is owned by the owner class and used to convince Americans that Y is necessary and that the profit firehose never ceases.
*and a shit ton of other things.
Many are complicit.
