    And this isn’t even reading between the lines. Miyazaki explicitly works environmentalist messages and attributes into his works. It’s like half of his entire deal, right behind airplanes.

    If you’d like an even clearer example, watch Pom Poko, not directed by Miyazaki but he was one of the writers (along with Isao Takahata, who directed).

      Seconded regarding Pom Poko. I don’t class myself as an anime fan but both of these films stand entirely on their own feet regardless of the medium. They are cinematic masterpieces.
