Yet another example for: popularity doesn’t equal quality. I mean there will be more enough money in those movies for a high production value, but what an uninspiring bunch of crap!
I’m bookmarking this so that when I’m feeling depressed about my lack of creativity I’ll just look at this list.
Frame it right above the desk and next to the live laugh lube sign
Ugh, I try not to be this guy but 7/10 of those movies are remakes/sequels and of the remaining 3 one is the 14th iteration of a character, one is a video game adaptation, and the other is a superhero movie (I assume it ties into the MCU but I can’t be fucked to care). I understand you typically get hyped for things you can expect but this list sucks
Let’s be honest, this is a “most anticipated” list. It’s expected that people will be anticipating continuations/alterations of stories they know and love.
It’s very hard to anticipate a Keanu Reeves movie about a drunk painter with an underground director.
Absolutely spot on.
You can’t anticipate what you already know.
Also, if you haven’t pitched that Keanu movie, you need an agent. I’m in.
Not a single original idea.
Yeah, its the “most anticipated” list so it really just measuring brand recognition.
The top ten box office movies for 2024 had 8 sequels, a live action Disney remake, and the first part of an adaptation of a Broadway musical based on a book which was a prequel to another remade movie based on a book.
I reckon the 2025 list reflects the state of the industry quite well.
It shows how much brand recognition drives the industry at that level (top 10s).
I’m not helping, reflecting on last year we saw the following in cinemas:
- Paddington in Peru
- Sonic the Hedgehog 3
- Moana 2
- Dragon Ball DAIMA
- Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
- Despicable Me 4
- Inside Out 2
- The Garfield Movie
Not a new IP in the list.
Rolling Stone has a better list of anticipated movies:
https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-lists/most-anticipated-movies-2025-1235188893/With you on that. At first I thought the list was some kind of satire…
Truly one of the lists of all time
This is the type of list someone you meet at a party who “loves movies” would give you.
…are these not movies?
28 Years Later is directed by Danny Boyle, the same director of the original. Alex Garland wrote the original. Garland and Boyle wrote 28 Years together.
I think I’ll give it a chance.
Have you seen the trailer? It was a very good trailer. I don’t say that often.
I’ve deliberately not watched the trailer to avoid spoilers. Yes, I’m one of those people.
Normally I’m the same way; nearly every movie I’ve been excited to see in theaters, I’ve made a point to avoid the trailers for it. But with 28 Years Later, I was excited to see the trailer again when I went to a movie, after already watching it intentionally. It’s what a trailer should be, instead of the usual “here are the best scenes, funniest jokes, and every major plot point” we usually get
You gave me an excuse to do something I wanted to do anyway. I just watched it, and it was great! Thanks!
I am literally not interested in any of them 😂
According to whom? Some marketing employee at IMDB?
So it’s based on the completely unbiased opinions of people who pay a premium for some sort of extra content on IMDb, if I’m understanding correctly?
That’s correct.
If you want alternative sources, Rolling Stone has their own list of ‘Most Anticipated Movies of 2025’.
Dang this list is a lot better. Also curious if The Brutalist doesn’t count as a 2025 movie, I’m excited for that one and not able to see it for a few more weeks.
Great. Superhero, remakes, and sequels. Amazing. /s
Select big studio movies, sort by marketing budget descending
I’m excited for the new Bong Joon Ho movie Mickey 17
Remake.
Sequel.
Prequel.
Remake.
??? (Ripoff)
Sequel.
Remake.
Sequel.
Shameless money grab. (Oh wait that’s all of them)
Sequel.
“I can’t wait for them to reboot The Fantastic Four again” said nobody ever
That one literally looks like it’s a joke
It certainly does have an Adult Swim/Sealab vibe to it
I wasn’t aware anyone cared about Thunderboltcats or Capt Weaksauce.
Only curious how bad they’ll both be just based on the trailers.
Well and that Disney plus show
I enjoy a good bombed movie, too.
I was watching a video earlier about how bad the ADR is in the madam spider movie. It’s pretty entertaining.I just don’t know if it’s even gonna be a fun bad movie
Probably not. I wouldn’t expect it.
I can’t believe the only entry on this list that isn’t an unnecessary sequel or an extremely unnecessary reboot is a fucking video game movie.
Because those are never trash, right?
People voted for this shit? Or were there just no other choices on the ballot?
What is Thunderbolts? Just MCU’s version of Suicide Squad?
Basically, yeah.
