Also sourced from Chiphell, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is expected to command a price tag between $479 for AMD’s reference card and roughly $549 for an AIB unit, varying based on which exact product one opts for. At that price, the Radeon RX 9070 XT easily undercuts the RTX 5070, which will start from $549, while offering 16 GB of VRAM, albeit of the older GDDR6 spec.
I was considering replacing my Rx 580 in my Linux gaming machine. It’s starting to show its age. I held off previously because the cost of entry level video cards was way too high. I’m thinking $500 is still going to be too much for a card. Any suggestions for about $300 that would be a significant upgrade?
Are you focused on AMD?
If not, perhaps the new Intel B580 would be a good option? It’s in your price bracket, it seems like a solid product and I believe Intel also offers OSS drivers on Linux.
I’m usually full bore on AMD, mostly due to price. I want to believe Intel will work, but last I heard it wasn’t working well.
