Summary
The U.S. and Ukraine signed a bilateral agreement on February 25, 2025, establishing a Reconstruction Investment Fund to finance Ukraine’s rebuilding efforts.
The deal acknowledges that the U.S. has provided significant financial and material support to Ukraine since “Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.”
It outlines joint management and investment in Ukrainian natural resources, with Ukraine contributing 50% of future revenue from minerals, oil, and gas.
A more detailed Fund Agreement will follow, requiring ratification by Ukraine’s parliament. U.S. officials stress negotiations are ongoing.
Bullshit that this is being forced through at all thanks to Putin’s stooge in the White House…
But if this is actually how it breaks down:
Then that’s not nearly as bad as I assumed it was going to be. 50% of the revenue is much better than my assumption that Trump was going to want straight up full control of that 50%.
I imagine it’s the terms the EU and UK were talking about yesterday. I also imagine the US would have something about 40% of the remaining 50% (20% of the total).
How long until we see some Hollywood-style accounting for these mineral revenues?
