    MacDonald said the second officer had asked Maggie a similar question about whether she preferred Canada or the U.S.

      I think the correct response is

      “Am I being detained or am I free to go?”

        The correct response is “I don’t answer questions”

        Until such a point in the conversation opens up an opportunity to say what you suggested.

    Why did they have a drug dog search the vehicle with no probable cause? Unless I missed something in the article.

      I get the distinct impression probable cause isn’t required anymore in the USA from the reports we are seeing here.
