Not sure why, tbh. I thought the BQ did well in the debate. They were QC-first as expected, but they also showed willingness to be part of a united front against US demands, which makes sense; they know if we fall, they do to. They also largely did their best to hold the Liberals accountable, and called them out where appropriate.
While they focused mainly on QC issues, I felt they were invested in Canada’s success as a whole.
Blanchet honestly made me feel a bit jealous that I didn’t live in Québec and he wasn’t going to bat for me.
I am not from Quebec and would like to hear from Quebecois actually how they feel. What I see and hear is that the Quebecois are very concerned about the threat from the USA as well and actually moved closer to the rest of Canada recently. The Bloc seemed to have missed the current situation and interests of their people completely here. Or am I completely wrong here?
I don’t vote bloc this year (I sometimes do), but a good friend of mine does. So I asked him to try to get you that perspective.
He likes the Bloc’s ideas in general and has often voted for them. What he really likes from the Bloc is a bigger, clearer separation of concerns without a full separation though. He pointed out that he felt compelled by Singh’s during the debate until he found Singh was trying to bring too many responsibilities to the federal and “take credit”. As for being concerned about Trump, he is. Although he said while Trump takes a lot of room, we still have all the same problems as before which are still quite important and so it is still worth voting Bloc. He doesn’t want a majority government as he fears whoever is in power will just do too much as they please as it is happening in Quebec with the CAQ.

If Quebec seceded, they would have no currency, no military, and no protection from the world’s superpowers. France thinks they’ve already deviated too far from French culture.
There’s zero benefit to the province if they secede. They’d likely cease to be a distinct culture within 50 years.
It would also be a loss to Canada, especially the francophone parts outside Quebec, but also everywhere else. Quebec keeps the country balanced.
It also geographically connects Acadia and Newfoundland to the rest of Canada, wildly weakening Atlantic Canada’s ties to government and the rest of the country, and completely torpedoing east/west trade.
