I love his videos, they’re my usual workout “podcasts”. New one is about the 8BitDo controllers, I’ve been lurking about the ultimate one, I’ll finally know if it’s worth it
I have the ultimate bluetooth, it’s really good, but I had to buy replacement ABXY to swap to the xbox layout as I don’t often use it on my switch. The dock is the cherry on top.
I wonder, does it switch easily between Switch and PC? Cause when I use my Pro Controller on Switch and PC, I always need to re-appair it in the BT settings.
YES, there is a physical switch on the bottom of the controller to change modes.
Nice, good to know, thanks!
While I like my Ultimate Wireless 2.4g for its ability to wake the switch, I find my Pro 2 to be more versatile (d-input and Mac input Bluetooth options) and more comfortable to use.
Though the pro 2 doesn’t have hall effect sensors, so who knows how long my analog sticks will last.
I’m a big fan of my Ultimate. The form factor is, in my opinion, better than the official Xbox controller. I use it both on PC and Switch.
I have the 8bitdo SFC30, M30, FC30, Arcade stick, Pro and Ultimate.
I only realized it late that I have become a big fan of them :D
Me too. I’ve got a ton of their controllers. Current favourite is the Ultimate 2.4GHz, which seems to be the perfect SteamDeck controller. I’ve considered picking up the cheaper 2.4GHz Ultimate (the one without the cradle) as a spare, but their chosen colour schemes for them baffle me! Can’t decide whether I hate or love them.
Would you recommend the Arcade Stick?
Yes and no, the arcade stick is nice on all arcade type games except fighting games. The default stick is a 4 way gate which is not really that great when it comes to doing special move inputs, especially complicated ones. It can be done but it feels nicer with an 8 way gate.
However the stick by itself is moddable, you can replace the stick with an 8 way, although looking for mod parts can be tricky. There are tons of youtube videos regarding it and to be honest I haven’t checked these videos yet but probably one of them shows where to buy parts for modding.
Sounds not too bad, I think I will give it a try. Thanks for sharing!
Nice! I’ve always been a fan of 8bitdo controllers. I wonder if the newer ones addressed the latency issue on Nintendo switch. Whenever I have 4 controllers connected and one 8bitdo, it has bad lag. Like half a second or so. Happens with joycon, pro controllers, and some wired. Wired 8bitdo does fine though.
Out of the loop:
I don’t need controllers for switch, but I use a handful of old DS4 and occasionally a DualSense on my PC. Any advantages to an 8bitdo? I haven’t used one of theirs since an older SNES-looking one.
I think they are good 3rd party controllers, and are a good investment whether you want a “cheap” controller or something compatible across different systems.
