More police will just be a bandaid. solution for the long run needs to be addressed at a societal level. Can only hope we elect leaders who have the vision and drive to tackle the root issues.
Band-Aid solution, yes. But while the societal changes aren’t in place yet, something needs to actually be done to make the TTC safer here and now.
I’m not a fan of the either or paradigm. You can make changes to fix the root problem, and also do something to make things more bearable in the meantime.
True, but when has that ever happened? Even Olivia Chow is probably just going to send in more pigs, because that is what every average idiot is demanding.
We need more blunt honesty from our elected leaders. There’s too much pampering and excessive optimism about how easy is to fix things.
That’ll never happen. Politicians need votes; “we’re fucked” isn’t a good campaign slogan.
Well, more like “guys, we need to increase taxes to make this work” and “we can’t promise things will be like in the good old days”.
Even that, as I understand it, doesn’t go over well. Especially when the other guy cuts out all the context in an attack ad.
In my fairly direct experience policy and politics are completely different. Policy people get a seat at the table basically just because politicians are there to shield them from the politics.
