    The whole story is wild…

Dude did not plan on taking the record. He just felt really good in the last 10k and said, “fuck it. Let’s try for under 2 hrs” (not his actual words)

Ends up taking the record and had enough energy to jump around and celebrate after the line

This was only his 3rd marathon

    Wtf…

*Kiptum crossed the finish line at the Chicago Marathon with an unofficial time of 2 hours and 35 seconds. If confirmed, Kiptum will have beaten two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge’s record, set at the 2022 Berlin Marathon, by 34 seconds. *

Pretty sure in Kenya “Kip” translates to something like “son of”. So Kipchogi is “son of Chogi” and Kiptum is “son of Tum”.

Everything points towards it imo. Kiptum is only 23 and it wasnt planned as a sub 2 run with good pacers and all. And it didnt seem like a crazy fluke either.

If it weren’t for the Olympic games in Paris I might have said that it would be likely to even happen next year. But with them being in July/August there might not be the right timing for a good attempt.
