Effective July 1st, businesses are no longer permitted to provide new plastic shopping bags to customers. Paper bags now come with a mandatory minimum fee of $0.15 as well.

Happy waste reducing, y’all!

There seen to be a lot of exemptions - the flimsy plastic bags to put produce in aren’t going anywhere, for example. Neither are plastic containers for baked goods (donuts and that stuff).

Kind of understandable, that’s a much larger supply chain issue. Better than nothing, but not enough, I think.

The rules are largely related to restaurants at the moment. Everyone else can continue their unchecked pollution.

This was poorly planned and not thought out properly. The front line workers have to take the brunt of public outrage.

It’s also not sanitary. I got a Timmies wrap handed to me with bare hands. No bags or paper wrapping.
