They’re kidding right? They seriously expect this to succeed? The new regulars are no where near as popular as the old regulars when Lincoln was airing. Not even close. Not to mention a lot of Lincoln’s humor derived from the individual quirks of many of the regulars.

      Are they though?

I thought at least New York and Kamaitachi are pretty popular currently.

It’s just there are way more talents now that the popularity of Downtown back then was more impactful.

And for the first episode, they definitely tried to make it pretty big with a lot of younger popular talent getting invited.

You are probably misperceiving how popular the members of the Lincoln cast were at the time because of how popular they got after the show.
Downtown were the exception, they were definitely more popular than the other members at the time. The new cast has Kamaitachi, I would define them as skilled but they are nowhere close to how popular Downtown were at the time, what surprises me is that they didn’t chose Chidori as leaders, probably they are way too busy to start another program.

I don’t know, Kamaitachi is usually near the top of the popular geinin rankings - they were 5th in I think the last Wednesday’s Downtown ranking, and the only other young group in the top 5 was Chidori at 3rd. They probably couldn’t book Chidori for it, but Kamaitachi is likely close to an even draw…

I didn’t realize the younger generation’s only options were “do nothing” and “rip off an existing show”. I guess originality was never an option.

A broadcasting company relaunching a show that hasn’t been on in 10 years is not ripping off an existing show lol.

I hate to ruin the illusion, but a lot of variety shows aren’t actually created by the people who perform in them.

Why not? It’s not like old Lincoln members can come back and continue forever, just like Gaki no Tsukai. Kamaitachi are really popular nowadays and have been involved in many popular shows.

A direct sequel, named after the US president that immediately followed Lincoln. I see what they did there.

God it sucks getting old. Not only does your body start sucking ass but tons of the things you have loved throughout your life start fizzling away too. Like Gaki being front and center in shows =(

I mean, it makes sense. Most of the original cast is over 60 now, some of them retired (forced or not), too expensive, and too old to do what this show requires of them now.

So logically, they would want to re-try the series with cheaper and younger talent (especially since production costs have gone up over the years).
