FFS it’s Malta and North Macedonia and you’ve already qualified. Why not use it as an opportunity to try out something new/different - yes I’m annoyed JWP isn’t on the roster, also if Southgate blieballs Tomori by making him travel all the way for training and not even play him he’s a bellend
Cole Palmer would genuinely be a more effective LW than current Rashford, which is funny considering he’s primarily a RW or CAM.
Curtis, Gomes,Gordon and Gibbs-white were all so good in the u21s euros and now they are not eligible for the youth teams. Isn’t it sensible to give any of them a callup atleast against malta or north macedonia rather than calling up players with no gametime? Also Gordon is performing way better than rashford.
No mention of Palmer?
Don’t think there’ll be a penalty shoot out. And he isn’t better at penalties than Kane so no reason to include him.
There’s a theory Southgate wants to win EURO 2024 and then quit on a high so isn’t doing any groundwork for beyond that.
But even if that was true, there are some older selections in the squad who aren’t better than the younger players coming through in the here and now.
Jones is out injured until after the break anyway
God, I hope John Stones is fit when the Euros come around
I thought something looked off at the back
The problem is we need him as a CB and a DM. Cloning tech can’t come soon enough
What must Konsa do? He really should just declare for Portugal
Wonder if we’ll get another pre-match interview with Henderson about how he’s actually the greatest guy ever, you just don’t understand him.
Start Tomori he has been flawless for the past 2 months including CL group of death. What more does he need to do
Grealish over Sterling is a madness
Grealish has been injured for most of the season- And even then, since returning, he’s been one of our best players.
Next euro should be the last tournament for some English players like Wilson, Watkin, Maguire, Trippier and Walker, their experience starts to matter very little to the overall squad
I don’t even want Raheem Sitting in the squad because I think we have better alternatives in his position with the likes of Saka, Foden, Rashford & Grealish but I feel so bad for him. Kalvin Phillips & Harry Maguire still get picked for England even though their club form has been terrible or non existent for the last 2 years and the angle Southgate fans are using and I assume is Southgate’s thinking aswell is that they are his loyal soldiers, who’s done very well for him in the past and since the Euros is likely to be his last tournament, he wants to one last dance with his crew. The problem is that Sterling has been England’s best player for his entire tenure aside from Harry Kane and we all know how he powered England through the group stage at Euro 2020. How does he not get credit in the bank and get viewed by Southgate as one of his loyal soldiers when Kalvin Phillips and Harry Maguire get selected even though they barely play and are deemed surplus to requirements at club level ???
It just seems wrong doesn’t it.
There’s an article on Sky Sports about it which says he hasn’t played for England since the France QF at the World Cup. They suggest the relationship broke after Sterling left camp to go back home after the robbery.
Its a shame if that is the case.
Maguire has probably been our best player in the last month or so. Him having bad form is simply not true
Pleased for Johnstone but lack of Pope is baffling when Ramsdale isn’t playing regularly.
Southgate is so unimaginative omydaysssss
Henderson is in, baffling. Phillips is in, slightly less baffling but still odd. Dunk keeps his spot, all is right with the world.
Praying that Trippier and Wilson play zero minutes. Both have been run into the ground the last few months, and need a break.
Kane isn’t going to want to come off against Malta or N.Macedonia. Even then I think Watkins is the current 2nd Favourite.
As for Trippier, I would like to see Colwill out on the LB again.
Seeing as we’ve already qualified I think this would’ve been a good time to call up Ezri Konsa.
Who knows what the injury situation could be by next summer and it’d be a benefit to have a bit of experience, even if it’s just training with the squad.
