  • I played Warframe only a little. Would lovento get into it but I (funilly enouhg) really minded the floatiness of the combat and movement, and the overly fast paced nature. Would like to try again - but while I didn’t get too far, it was far enough to now be confused by it to continue. Would need to create new char/reset progres but afaik there is no way to do this?

Anyway, the issue with floatiness of Soulframe got fixed. I didn’t actually play before, got invited in November. The combat doesn’t feel floaty to me, it has nice weight to it and I quite enjoy it. I didn’t play too much - there isn’t that much content and I don’t want to burn out.

The way the do story is interesting, as there is little guidance and you just stumble on stuff (though they do plan to change this so you don’t miss important characters). At first it looks like there is not much to do and it’s just proof of concept but if you wander around enough you find there is much more than it seems (still not much in grand scheme of things - it is pre-alpha - but it’s more than just proof of concept for sure).

There is an open world you can explore which has some tasks like destroy enemy towers that corrupt stuff, kill patrols and such. Also some exploration features. And from open world you enter randomly generated dungeons tou can run to get resources to craft weapons and class items that change your skills. Dungs have some environmental puzzles and stuff too which are nice.

My understanding is the gameplay loop works very similarly to that of Warframe - but fantasy and more slow paced and deliberate combat. Next update should introduce social hub and some other stuff.

I got some extra codes with the invite, only one got used though - if you are interested I can DM you one to try it yourself.

  • I feared making the plunge as well but it was so seamless tbh. Got Linux Mint and it just feels like a newer version of old Windows. Not sure how it’s with other distros, but I find it to be precicely Linux for dummies.

I’d say the difficulty to getting used to new environment was on a similar level to getting from Windows XP to Windows 7. If you can dual boot I recommend just trying it - the water is fine.
