I think the McDonald’s manager is a bit of a straw man here, insomuch as it is an edge case. It’s a class traitor job, much like being a cop is. Both are wage slaves tasked with disciplining other wage slaves.

Edit to add: Employers—from owners all the way down to McDonald’s managers—and cops & prison guards can’t join the IWW, but anyone else can: https://www.iww.org/membership/

I dunno man. Even in a utopia where we control all the means of production you still need someone to schedule work hours and order ingredients and stuff. They should be beholden to the rest of the team just like anyone in any position so I see what you’re saying. However, comparing them to cops is a little extreme. These “bosses” need to be in agreement with the rest of the labor class and calling them thieves is unhelpful when the real enemy are the shareholders. Let’s start with taking down the actual ruling class before pitting workers against other workers just because some of them have been elevated to minor positions of power by a corrupt system. Of course there are bad bosses who buy in too much but I’ve had plenty that actually care and are just as exploited even if they make 5 or 10 percent more slave wage.

All I’m saying is that this meme is hurting class solidarity and if it actually said “capital owners” and not “your boss” then the 90% of people who aren’t experts on Marxist theory might understand. As it is, I feel like most people would just read this and think, “well then my boss is a thief and I hate them for that”, which doesn’t help.
