It’s all about decisions…yesterday I knew didn’t have a lot of sunlight left in the day and was going to take a ride to see the (LEO) Long eared Owl but decided to stay local. As was talking to my friend John, I saw something flying in the field. told him Happy Easter and walked across the street. At first l thought it was two female Northern Harriers fighting over a vole. I looked at the photo I had just taken and realized it was a (SEO) Short Eared Owl which WAS sitting quietly on the ground with its meal. As the Harrier came towards it, the SEO was defending its prize…I captured a cool shot of the two fighting…the upside down owl with the Harrier on top. If I hadn’t stopped, I would have missed this completely!

This is a very cool shot and thanks for sharing the photo and photographer’s story too. The number of cool things we never see cos we couldn’t film it is sad but knowing that even a fraction of it is captured on film is amazing.

There are so many stories going on in the world at once, and we’ll only ever experience an infinitesimal portion of them. It’s amazing we live in an age where we can capture and share a handful of them with each other. I always wonder which pictures will live on to be shown hundreds of years from now.
