I have read the faith only arguments, but I will strongly disagree with them. If anything the whole point of the gospel is too act and not to be too formal about it. Prayer, when combined with every earnest effort possible to solve ones problems, can be a good way to help the mind cope with difficult, dangerous, or tragic situations. For most people it serves the same function as meditation.
