The Bears report to training camp in under 10 days, and once they get back to work they’ll begin the grind to prepare for the regular season. This is where the “reps chart” we’ve heard about from coaches will turn into a “depth chart.” It’s where some players will make an early name for themselves, and where others may not…
tl;dr:
Winners: Braxton Jones, Darnell Mooney, Justin Fields
Losers: Lucas Patrick, Jack Sanborn, Jaylon Johnson
Jaylon Johnson’s contract situation is one of the more interesting ones. I think he’s a very solid CB but not in the top elite tier. I’m very curious what sort of money his camp is looking for. And I can’t imagine that the rookies are putting that much pressure on him - even if they pan out it may take a bit of development. As a recent example, Kyler Gordon was pretty tough to watch last year.
The other one that stands out to me is Jack Sanborn. I figured he was penciled in as the starting Sam and was surprised to see the team invest so heavily in off ball linebacker. Could his injury be more serious than I realized?
