      “American English” is pidgin English, so there’s that.

      The Associated Press Stylebook says the correct way to write the possessive case of Chris is Chris’, not Chris’s.         If you compare the two styles with logic instead of habit, one of them is clearly superior.

        The only reason the AP style is accepted by many is because most people are incapable of critical inquiry.
