It was supposed to rain, but we pressed on, and it ended up being beautiful. Chilly but pleasant. Just cold enough to make you appreciate the warm fire. Plus the sound of the river to lull you to sleep.

Hard to beat!

It’s actually my buddies dog, they both sleep in his tent. But I’ve heard of people taking their dogs hammock camping, and they just sleep under the hammock. Dogs are good at staying warm, especially if they have thick coats.

My parents have an outdoor only dog (I know, I know). He has a heated bed in his doghouse, and when it gets real cold they bring him in the house. He hates it, he lays against the cold door, panting, too hot. Even with the heated bed, he’d rather sleep in the snow, getting covered in snow.

Point is, if it’s above freezing, your average dog is probably more than happy to sleep on the ground under you 🤷‍♂️

If it’s colder, maybe you could put him under you, wait till he settles down, then toss a thick sturdy blanket on him?

My dog is a short haired dog with no undercoat, so he’s susceptible to cold weather, and hot weather too. He wears a down jacket when we go hiking. I guess he could just use that for sleeping, but I’m afraid his paws, belly, and snout will get too cold since he won’t be moving.

Hmmm hard to say. Maybe some of those dog boots? And a cheap fold up foam mattress?
