Like, say you are watching Return to de Future, and you think, traveling back in time with a car impossible 100%. But you watch 2001: space Odyssey and you think, travelling to Jupiter in a Spaceship is feasible. That doesn’t mean that it has already happened, just that it seems likely to be possible.
The idea of jumping from expert systems to consciousness didn’t seem that unlikely. It just did not happen.
