The two astronauts who piloted the Boeing Starliner’s first crewed test flight responded to a claim from President Donald Trump that the pair were “abandoned.”

“That’s been the rhetoric. That’s been the narrative from day one: stranded, abandoned, stuck — and I get it. We both get it,” Wilmore said. “But that is, again, not what our human spaceflight program is about. We don’t feel abandoned, we don’t feel stuck, we don’t feel stranded.”

    but for some reason it couldn’t be done until early this year. Something about the launch schedule.

    I believe the reasoning was as follows: if you’re going to launch a four-person capsule to retrieve two astronauts, you might as well fill the extra two seats with two more astronauts. And if you’re going to launch two more astronauts, you might as well have them stay for a while.
