Summary

The Trump administration’s decision to defund the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) threatens foreign journalists at outlets like Voice of America and Radio Free Asia, putting them at risk of deportation to countries where they face imprisonment or death.

The move has especially received praise from authoritarian states like Russia and China.

Protesters and federal workers have filed a lawsuit to reverse the decision.

Critics argue the shutdown endangers press freedom and US foreign policy, likening it to abandoning Afghan interpreters after the US withdrawal.

I wish someone would fund journalists airing my governments dirty laundry… seriously anyone. Instead I have to donate directly and Russia just promotes fringe bullshit on Facebook or whatever.
