    I deactivated for 4 years. Then I decided to see what people were up to, and I discovered my local Buy Nothing group and a number of groups for my action figure collecting, and those are honestly worth it for me. I did my best to limit what data I’m giving them, but not only do they make it Byzantinely difficult, other software keeps selling them my info. My ads were slightly less targeted for a couple of weeks, then reverted back to being scarily targeted. That said, while I hate the privacy issues, I really like the groups. Anyway, thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

      Damn, I wish we could just get those groups on sites like lemmy instead. I wonder if the lack of anonymity might foster trust between members of a group that buys and sells stuff to each other? 🤔

        We could definitely have Buy Nothing groups, but the Facebook options for inter-member commerce are too convenient and offer decent protections. For a price of course. But when you’ve never done business with someone before, it’s nice to have those protections.
