    The thing though is that lightning port is proprietary to Apple while USB is an open standard (in the sense that anyone can use it in their products. There are fees to have a vendor ID)

    You have all these USB devices at home, but you need another cable for your phone only to line a company’s pocket.

    Apple can absolutely implement USB-C properly and stop fleecing their customers

      It being proprietary is virtually irrelevant considering how many bootleg products out here use it. And now all those bootleg manufacturers are going to make USB-C stuff that isn’t up to spec.

        It being proprietary stops people from actually implementing it correctly.

        It closes the market to either buy a 40$ cable from Apple which is fucking highway robbery, or you get shitty knockoff. No in-between. Proprietary has never been a good thing for consumers and never will.
