I really hope you’re right. VR has a lot more long-term potential than most people realize, and if there’s a corporation in charge of it it’ll be worse

This goes against the whole concept of the metaverse, in metas own words “There won’t be a Meta-run metaverse, just as there isn’t a ‘Microsoft internet’ or ‘Google internet’ today”. By definition, if one corporation is in charge, it’s not the metaverse.

Yeah that’s a lie. Meta wants to be in charge. They’ve just failed to take the market share because the product they made isn’t good

We’ll see I guess, it’s years away from actually existing.

the project has already failed based on the initial release of their “metaverse” VR game. and whatever future plans they may have I guarantee they will either cancel it or release something completely underwhelming.

Yes Horizons is/was underwhelming, but it’s nothing close to a real implementation of a metaverse.

meta is nowhere close to their speculative implementation of the metaverse either, it’s just an attempt to build hype and keep investors interested until they forget about the whole thing in a few years

I don’t believe for a second that Meta would produce something open and free that they didn’t control and make money from
