      In Denmark, we say “prosit”, a Latin word meaning “may it be beneficial” originating from the time of the Black Death.

      Basically, we tell sneezing people that we hope they don’t have the plague. MUCH better than invoking someone who’s their own imaginary dad or just saying “health”, if you ask me.

        It’s short for “I wish you good health (and not the plague)”.

        May what be beneficial? In German, “Prosit” (usually “Prost”) is a form of “cheers” or “bottoms up” because that beer better be beneficial or else.

        Oh, I couldn’t have been more sarcastic with my comment. Saying “God Bless You” to a sneeze is fucking stupid.
