Nothing more to it. A type of dog bred for fighting mauled a man to death. And now we have confirmation from the PM that this specific breed will be banned entirely by the end of the year. Good.
You don’t think an animal that has been selectively bred for generations to be the most aggressive they can can be trained to resist their most basic urges? No they will snap eventually. It might not be a death or dismemberment but they might bite.
And your dog has never acted on its prey drive? Never chased a squirrel or a rabbit even? If a big dog decides you’re prey, this is what happens. Not sure why you think pretending otherwise is a good idea.
All domestic dogs still have a prey drive. Its why they shake toys etc.
They did after all decend from an ancestor in common with wolve
s. But approx 11k years of breeding has diminished the drive in some breeds. Ment to be companion dogs etc. Amd increased in in others. Mainly fighting dogs.
But while much of that breeding is intentional. You cannot garrentee a breed has a set level. Breeding is just not that accurate.
But as a genral rule of thumb. Some breeds take more work to keep that drive under control then others. Add the effort to breed large muscular dogs for fighting or sales. And some dogs can be as risky as any other carnivore species.
An irresponsible dog owner who uses their dogs as a threat and a weapon? A police force which only issued a caution the last time this nearly happened?
It really depends on the dog and their owner(s), really. Some dogs can be extremely aggressive and violent, if they’ve been kept as fighting dogs for example
Dogs also feed off of the emotions of their owners. If the owner is all tense or aggressive, the dog will be on alert and prone to attack other dogs and people
Dogs don’t do that “for fun”, there must be more behind this story.

What more could there possibly be? And what makes you think a dog wouldn’t kill something for fun? Have you ever even owned a dog?
I have two dogs.

No, they didn’t.
So obviously nobody else could ever have a different experience than you!
